These buffalo chicken sliders are always a hit when we’re hosting for a sporting event. They’re easy to put together, taste amazing and are great for when you’re entertaining a crowd! Plus you just pull them apart and serve, best finger food for a party!

When we are hosting College Football parties (Go CANES) or Super Bowl parties or tennis slams final parties (FeDal fans here) we love to put out trays of food loaded with appetizers, dips and these buffalo sliders. It makes hosting a breeze, plus guests are always raving about these sliders.
Honestly, I didn’t share the recipe for these sliders for the longest time. I kind of don’t think of it as a recipe as I tend to buy chicken tenders already fried which makes the process so much quicker.
Check out these dips to add to your hosting menu:
A little over 20 years ago, my husband and I were just out of college, working full time, studying at night for another degree and still trying to enjoy going out occasionally. We would share buffalo chicken drumsticks, with blue cheese dressing served with a side of celery and carrot sticks. And of course a glass of beer! Ohh the memories of those days:).
These sliders bring back those memories for me as the flavors I put together are exactly the same, just served differently.
Blue Cheese Slaw
So let’s talk ingredients for the blue cheese slaw. This slaw makes the buffalo chicken sliders special. The blue cheese counteracts with the spice from the buffalo sauce but the combination of flavors is just amazing!
- Blue cheese crumbled – crumbled blue cheese adds texture to the slaw.
- Blue cheese dressing – blue cheese dressing not only enhances the blue cheese flavor but also ties together all the ingredients for the slaw. Use your favorite brand!
- Shredded carrots – they add crunch and flavor.
- Celery – more crunch, texture and flavor.
- Lemon – brightens the flavors.
- Olive oil – helps tie together the slaw.
Chop the carrots and celery stalks, add blue cheese crumbles, olive oil, lemon juice and blue cheese dressing over them. Mix well and refrigerate the slaw for the flavors to marry. It’s better served chilled, it will provide another contrast with the chicken.
If you’re looking for a different flavor slaw, check out this Apple Coleslaw (no cheese) because it’s definitely refreshing and less sharp than the blue cheese slaw.
Preparing the Buffalo Chicken
As I mentioned earlier, I tend to buy the chicken tenders already fried and breaded for this recipe which is a fantastic shortcut especially if you’re hosting. My local grocery store (Publix) makes these amazing fried, chicken tenders. You can always make them yourself the day before and refrigerate until you need to use them.
Chop the tenders into bite size pieces. Prepare the buffalo sauce and add the pieces of chicken tenders in the pot. Mix well so everything gets coated.
Assembling the Buffalo Chicken Sliders
There are different types of slider breads, I tend to use a package of 8 because it fits well in one of my platters. Then I repeat the assembly process as needed. Just to make things simpler, the recipe is enough for 8 sliders too so if you need more for a bigger crowd just double or triple the recipe.
Use a bread knife and cut into the sliders bread in the middle to separate top and bottom, but don’t cut into each individual slider yet.
Add a layer of mixed greens, sandwich lettuce or your favorite greens. Top off the greens with buffalo chicken evenly. Then add the slaw on top and finally the top bread layer. Now you can pull or cut each individual slider apart. Usually I cut a little with my knife but don’t pull apart, I let my guests pull whichever slider they want out of the tray.
Just leave plenty of napkins or smaller plates close by:). These sliders can be messy but they’re so worth it!
Buffalo Chicken Sliders with Blue Cheese Slaw
Equipment
Ingredients
Blue Cheese Slaw
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 5 celery ribs
- 0.5 cup crumbled blue cheese
- 0.5 cup blue cheese dressing
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Buffalo Chicken
- 3-4 fried, breaded chicken tenders
- 1 cup buffalo sauce
- 2 tbsps butter
Extras needed for assembly
- 8 slider breads
- 2 cups fresh greens like spring mix or sandwich lettuce
Instructions
Blue Cheese Slaw
- Chop celery and carrots and add them to a medium bowl. Add crumbled blue cheese, blue cheese dressing, freshly squeezed lemon juice and olive oil. Mix well and refrigerate so slaw can chill. Double if you plan to serve more so you can have it already chilled when needed.
Buffalo Chicken
- Add a saucepan on medium heat in the stovetop. Add butter and once butter melts, add your favorite buffalo sauce. Lower heat to low once it starts to bubble.
- Chop chicken tenders (purchased them already breaded and fried) into bite size pieces. Add them to simmering buffalo sauce and use a wooden spoon to coat the chicken thoroughly. Turn heat off after 1-2 minutes. Let it absorb the sauce while you prepare the ingredients for assembly.
Assembling the Sliders
- Cut the slider breads in the middle, separate the top layer and place it aside. Cover the bottom with greens like Spring Mix or Sandwich lettuce.
- Top off the greens corner to corner with buffalo chicken.
- Add a layer of the slaw over the buffalo chicken and then place the top slider bread layer over the slaw. Cut through the lines to separate the sliders but don't pull them apart, let your guests do that:). Enjoy!
Notes
- In my experience, these sliders are usually 2 sliders per adult serving and 1 for children. But it also depends a little bit, if you have a lot of other finger foods and appetizers people will eat less.
- Pro-tip to plan your party – make extra slaw and chill. Buy extra chicken tenders but chop them 3-4 tenders at a time and serve about 8 sliders or so at a time. Then assemble another platter as soon as one disappears.
- You can use Hawaiian rolls instead of the regular sliders I use. They usually come in bigger packages so add more slaw and chicken to have enough for all of them.
