These stir fried bell peppers are cooked on a skillet with seasonings and then served with crumbled feta cheese for a delicious Mediterranean side dish. You can serve this recipe meze style or family style on the table for everyone to spoon a little on their plate. Don’t forget some warm bread to scoop up the fried peppers!!

Bell Peppers
Bell peppers are so colorful and make any dish look bright and vibrant. Love all the colors and I tend to use all of them if possible. Sometimes you find them in packs of 3 with only 3 colors, that’s ok to use too. You can mix and match the colors to your taste:).
Peppers are such a big part of Mediterranean Diet too. While for us that grew up in the Mediterranean, we are used to not only bell peppers but plenty of other varieties of peppers as well. Here in US bell peppers are pretty common to find in all grocery stores so I find them pretty easy to use for this recipe:).
Frying or Stir Frying Peppers?
If you are using Cubanelle style peppers or long red peppers, then I suggest you dry them whole and turn them every few minutes to the side and keep frying until they’re cooked on all sides.
While for bell peppers, since their shape is too bulky then I suggest slicing them in julienne strips and stir fry them. I personally choose a very simple stir frying recipe but you can build on my recipe and add more ingredients to your taste.
I tend to serve these bell peppers with feta cheese with meatballs, Greek salad, tarator, fresh bread etc etc.
Stir Fried Bell Peppers
Equipment
- 1 large skillet
- 1 Wooden spoon
Ingredients
- 5 bell peppers variety of colors would be nice
- 2 tbsps olive oil extra virgin
- 0.5 tsp oregano
- 0.25 tsp sea salt
- pinch black pepper freshly ground tastes better
- 2 ozs feta cheese
Instructions
- Wash and air dry or pat dry the bell peppers. Cut the peppers in julienne strips.
- Place skillet in medium heat and once hot, add olive oil. When oil starts to shimmer, add the peppers. Use the wooden spoon to flip them around as they cook. Try not to have the peppers overcrowd.
- Stir slowly but constantly. Add sea salt, oregano and black pepper to peppers so they keep cooking while absorbing the flavors.
- Once cooked thoroughly, add peppers to a platter. Crumble feta cheese and add on top of peppers. Serve some warm bread with peppers and the rest of the meal. Enjoy!
Notes
- The way I season and cook these bell peppers is pretty minimalistic. But if you feel like adding onions, garlic, spicy seasonings or taco seasoning for example go ahead and try, there’s nothing wrong with it! Oh they taste great with soy sauce too but they’re no longer Mediterranean style if you add that.
