I tried my first Piña Colada when I first moved to Miami few decades ago and this drink really reminds me of vacation, clear water beaches, music and friends! It’s one of the best tropical, blended cocktails I have ever tried. I suppose that’s why it’s a classic:).

Few years ago, I posted a video of how I make my piña colada in Pinterest and that video goes insane every summer. It’s not even one of my good videos, but I suppose the popularity of the drink is more important than my video skills lol.
Anyways, I won’t bore you with a long story about Piña Colada, if you landed on my page chances are you have already tried it, loved it and now are trying to make your own version at home.
Let me make that part of the recipe easy for you:)).
Ingredients
- Frozen fresh pineapple chunks
- Coconut cream
- Pineapple juice
- Lime juice
- Rum
- Ice – optional
Garnishes – Usually here in Miami most places garnish piña coladas with maraschino cherries, slices of pineapple and even pineapple leaves.
Sonila’s Tips for The Perfect Drink
These are some of my tips to achieve the perfect drink.
- You need a good quality blender since you’re blending frozen fruit and maybe even ice.
- Coconut cream is such an important ingredient to making the perfect piña colada. While there are several brands in the market, everyone I know here in Miami swears by Coco Lopez brand (affiliate). My friends from Puerto Rico say it does make a difference so I stick with their recommendation.

Nutrition
Traditionally most bartenders use white rum to make Piña Coladas. However, I see some locations use 1.5 ozs white rum and 0.5 ozs of dark rum to add some spicy notes to the drink without overpowering it.
