Strawberry limeade is just what you need this summer! This refreshing drink is simple to make, tastes gourmet and is well liked by both adults and kids. It usually is the highlight of our summer get togethers.

A glass with strawberry limeade drink, it's shown with a lime slice and strawberry slice as garnishes. Drink has pieces of fruit and ice in it.
    Homemade Strawberry Limeade

Is this drink a limeade or an Agua Fresca?

Well technically this strawberry limeade fits the description of both. But personally I find it a lot close to a Strawberry Lime Agua Fresca than to a limeade itself because of all the fresh ingredients used.

This refreshing strawberries and limes summer drink is made with fresh strawberries, fresh limes, cane sugar and water. Plus ice if you want to count that as an ingredient.

Most versions of commercially made limeades have some kinds of colorant, processed ingredient or preservative. This homemade strawberry limeade is just full of fresh ingredients and doesn’t have any processed fruits flavorings or colorings.

I am not calling this drink an Agua fresca just because most people wouldn’t search it by that name online but it’s very similar to one because of all the fresh ingredients used.

Check out some of my other refreshing summer drinks:

    • Tamarind Agua Fresca
    • Pineapple Passion Fruit Lemonade

    Ingredients

I simply use fresh strawberries, fresh limes, cane sugar and water (plus ice) to make this refreshing limeade.

    Making Strawberry and Limes Drink

So I use some very simple steps to make a pitcher of this refreshing drink .

    • Make a syrup with 2 cups of water and 1 cup of cane sugar. Once it boils, add the peel of a lime, lower heat to simmer, let it simmer for 5 minutes than turn heat off. Set syrup aside. Syrup is similar to simple syrup but thinner and it has lime flavor.
    • Wash strawberries well, remove the hull, slice and add to blender. Blend until you get a smooth mix. Pour over a thin mesh that you can place over a pyrex measuring glass.
    • Squeeze limes and set their juice aside.
    • Add 2 cups of ice on a pitcher. Pour strained strawberry juice, lime juice, syrup and mix.
    • Now we will fill the rest of the pitcher with water, usually there’s space for about 4 extra cups of water at this point. I try to strain that water over the mesh where I strained the strawberries. It won’t get much of that flavor but it does still extract some color. Then I pour that water over the pitcher!
    • Mix and serve over ice, garnish with slices of limes and strawberries:). Enjoy!

Pro-Tip – Feel free to make a cocktail out of this drink by adding vodka or prosecco to this strawberry limeade.

    Equipment

    • 1 small sauce pot
    • 1 Fine Mesh Strainer
    • 1 Blender

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb strawberries about 450 grams
    • 6 limes
    • 1 cup cane sugar
    • 6 cups water divided, 2 for syrup and 4 for pitcher
    • 4 cups ice feel free to adjust this up or down depending when you are serving the drink

    Instructions

    • Wash strawberries, pat them dry then remove the hull. Slice them and add to a blender. Blend until smooth.
    • Pour blended strawberries over a fine mesh strainer and catch the strawberry juice over a pyrex glass.
    • Place a small sauce pot with 2 cups of water in high heat in the stovetop. Add 1 cup of sugar and mix. Lower heat to medium. Then when syrup boils, lower heat to simmer. Add the peel of a lime and turn heat off. The syrup will get the flavor and aroma of a lime from the lime peel. Set syrup aside to cool. You can also prepare the syrup the day before and refrigerate it until ready to use.
    • Squeeze the limes and set the juice aside.
    • Get a pitcher and add about 2 cups of ice then pour over strained strawberry juice, lime juice and syrup. Mix really well.
    • Get 4 cups of water (cold is best). Pour the water over the strainer where you strained the strawberries so the water will gather some of the color and flavor of the strawberries. Pour the strained water over the pitcher too. Mix again.
    • Let the pitcher of the strawberry limeade cool in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Serve on glass cups with more ice when ready and enjoy! Garnish with a slice of lime, strawberry or mint leaves:).

    Notes

    • Use an extra lime and 2 strawberries for garnishes. If you don’t have extras, you can garnish with mint leaves.
